About me: Having learned violin from the age of 7 and with a degree in Popular and World Musics (Leeds University) and an MA in Composition for Film & TV (Bristol University), I have a solid grounding in musical theory and substantial experience of both teaching, performing, composing and recording. I tailor lessons to the needs of individual students. I am experienced in teaching both adults and children. Specialising in helping my students to build confidence in their playing and learning, and with that showing them how the learning process can be enjoyed. For adults, I offer friendly and fun lessons tailored to the desires and needs of the student. For children, I specialises in engaging beginner children in a range of instruments and helping them concentrate, enjoy the learning process and feel the enthusiasm and joy that music brings. I am able to assess each student's abilities in terms of levels of concentration and understanding and offer teaching which is just the right level of challenging, mentally engaging and enjoyable but at an appropriate pace, thus avoiding frustration. I come from a classical background but most of my real world experience is in rock and pop. I attended Goldsmiths University London where I specialised in jazz performance, music tech and musical composition and I have toured extensively with both originals bands and function bands including performing on a cruise around the U.K. I spent the last 3 years working with Just Play music school in London where I lead ensembles and one on one lessons both in person and online. I’m a committed, patient and enthusiastic educator and I’ve had the pleasure of working with children and adults from a diverse range of abilities and backgrounds.

I have been teaching private lessons since I was in high school. I graduated from the Berklee College of Music in 2018 with a degree in Music Education. I have been playing piano since the age of five, studying voice since the age of seven and guitar since I was eleven. I have worked in a variety of group and private settings. I have studied Jazz, Classical and Contemporary techniques on all three of my main instruments and focuses on wellness integration while teaching.

I am a professional multi-instrumentalist session musician with a first class degree in BA Music from LIPA. I teach piano, clarinet and Alto Sax. I have taught all ages from 4-adult. I have experience teaching ABRSM, trinity and rock school. I trained classically myself however doing a pop degree as lead me to have an extensive knowledge of pop and musical theatre if students are interested in learning different styles.

I am a graduate from the University of Western Australia where I undertook specialist music studies in piano performance under Jana Kovar. I am also a professional concert pianist, and a recent qualifier in the 16th International Beethoven Piano Competition 2021. I have been teaching piano since 2014, and have experience in teaching and mentoring from beginners through to tertiary level students. I have extensive experience in piano performance having started in my early childhood, and have developed a reputation in the music industry through the years. My involvement in the industry has seen me working alongside operatic productions in Australia and overseas, working with ensembles and instrumentalists, and performing at various events such as the Mercedes Benz GLE Launch, ‘Enduring Friendship’ between WA and Germany 2019, and several charities. With the knowledge and experience I have gained over the years, I am able to pass them on to my students and guide them in their musical path and career.

Chris Salerno is an inventive and creative composer. For nearly forty years, Chris has been writing music for concert band, choir, orchestra, chamber ensembles, piano, childrens’ songs, and most recently, writing congregational music and hymn tunes. Chris has also been an active arranger and orchestrator. He has composed, arranged, and orchestrated for CD accompaniment recordings for the Standard of Excellence, Tradition of Excellence, and String Basics instrumental method books, all published by Kjos. He also serves as an Arranger for Martha Basset. Salerno’s concert band music has been performed at the MidWest International Band and Orchestra Clinic by the VanderCook College of Music Symphonic Band in Chicago, as well as the Radford University Symphonic Band in Radford, VA, and the West Point Military Academy Band in New York. His orchestral music has been played by The Roanoke Symphony Orchestra (in a reading session), as well as the Winston-Salem Symphony Orchestra. His choral music has been performed by the Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church Choir in Lynchburg, VA, the Worsham Baptist Church Choir and the Heritage Baptist Church Choir, both in Farmville, VA. Salerno received a Best Creative Thesis Award from Radford University for his Graduate composition recital. His concert band music has been selected twice for the New Music Symposium in Virginia. He has also been selected for Reviewer’s Choice twice in The Instrumentalist Magazine. Salerno’s music has been published by the Neil A. Kjos Music Company, Alfred Music, and Waitron Brass Music. His music appears on CD recordings from the Neil A. Kjos Music Company and Martha Bassett’s Christmas Album entitled Magnificat. He has been commissioned from concert bands across the midwest and eastern parts of the US. He has had the privilege of conducting the VanderCook College of Music Symphonic Band, the Radford University Symphonic Band and Percussion Ensemble, the Canandaigua High School Symphonic Band, the Worsham Baptist Church Choir, and the Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church Choir. Salerno earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago. There, he studied Euphonium with Roger Rocco, former principal tubist with the Honolulu and Seattle Symphony Orchestras and substitute for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Salerno then went on to earn a Master of Arts degree from Radford University in Radford, VA. There he studied composition with composer Mark Camphouse ( A Movement For Rosa, Tribute, To Build A Fire).

There are no age and background limits to be inspired by music and music making! Shortly about my background: I studied violin (modern and baroque), organ, and music pedagogy at City of Basel Music Academy and Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. I'm a specialist in historically informed performance practice and have an extensive teaching experience: instrument playing as well as music theory and music history.
